Considered by many to be the greatest basketball player of all time, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar amassed 6 NBA MVP awards, 19 All-Star appearances, and the most points ever scored in an NBA career, all on the way to the Hall of Fame. But as Kareem says, “I can do more than stuff a ball through a hoop; my greatest asset is my mind.”
Since Kareem left the NBA, he has become a New York Times best-selling author of 17 books and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the nation’s highest civilian honor — by then-president Barack Obama, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
Kareem was awarded the UC Presidential Medal, the University of California’s highest honor, in recognition of his impactful advocacy in education, health, and social justice. His lifelong dedication continues to inspire both athletes and communities around the world.
He is also an activist, a social commentator, and has become an advocate for underserved youth, which led him to create the Skyhook Foundation. He has helped transform STEM education by championing environmental literacy and taking learning outside of the classroom. His goal is to make science and engineering interactive, multi-sensory, relevant, and most importantly – fun.

Giving Kids a Shot That Can’t Be Blocked
The Skyhook Foundation helps kids soar above and beyond the four walls of the classroom by providing an engaging STEM-based educational experience in the great outdoors, and preparing students to be leaders and visionaries in the 21st century.
As the flagship program of the Skyhook Foundation, Camp Skyhook partners with Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to get children outdoors, where nature becomes their greatest teacher. With a curriculum developed by UCLA and NASA, students get a hands-on, immersive experience learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in a unique environment.
